The following are the roles and function of the
VHWs:
- Survey of catchment of households and making of spot map of their area.
- Medical Care which includes Treatment of common illnesses, Dressing of
wounds, and First Aid on accidents.
- Maternal and Child Health Care:
- Referral of pregnant mothers to Barangay Health Station for Tetanus Toxoid immunization and for prenatal
- Health Education to mothers on personal hygiene, breast feeding and nutrition.
- Survey and referral of children 0-12 months as pre-schoolers for
immunization. Master listing of 0-12 months old children
- Referral of mothers for dental care to the City or Municipality
Dentist.
- Referral and assistance in the Feeding program of malnourished
children.
- Referral of children for birth registration
- Environmental Sanitation:
- Survey of households without toilet and referring it to the City or Municipality Sanitary Inspector for possible toilet construction.
- Supervision of the household on cleanliness, beautification and proper disposal of
garbage.
- Supervision of potable drinking water in the community.
- Family Planning:
- Motivation of marriageable couple for family planning
- Conduct household teaching on responsible parenthood
- Referral to Barangay Health Center
- Control of endemic and communicable diseases which includes
Tuberculosis, Leprosy, Malaria and Diarrheal Diseases
For this year, SIMAG focused its effort on Family Management and Children Welfare which aims to promote a safe and healthy start in life for all
children; that the rights of every child will be respected and
protected.
